DIY Skateboard shelves

Materials needed:
1 small skate board,
1 larger skate board,
4 L-brackets, wall screws & matching bolts.

Tools needed:
Power drill with drill bit & screw bit,
A marker pen to mark where to drill holes,

Do it yourself Skate Board Shelves
Are those real skate boards on the wall? Yes they are, and you too can make these shelves with the help of your older boys. What is cooler than a Mom that knows how to use power tools? Well, even if it does not exalt you to Coolest Mom Ever status, these shelves are sure to get raves from their skater buddies.

Place the skate board deck side down, place the L-brackets on the inside of the wheels and mark with a pen where the holes will go. Remove the brackets and drill the holes. Thread the bolt and screw through the hole and bolt the bracket to the underside of the skate board. Screw the L-bracket into the wall using the wall screws.

Now adorn with your favorite Guy stuff like Collector Sport memorabilia and ball caps.

Help for the Rising Grocery Bill

I think we all have seen our grocery bill rise in the past few months... or more accurately in the past 6 months. Around Christmas I was able to buy our favorite ground Starbucks coffee for around $6. After a couple increases since then, we are now paying close to $9 - yikes! And just last week I noticed a 30 cent jump in the price of a can of black beans that I buy weekly. Not to mention eggs and milk have been on the rise - along with most items on the grocery store shelves.

I don't know about you, but being a full time mom means there is one income coming in - my husband's. So, I have started clipping coupons, watching the sales and fixing some vegetarian meals each week. Meat is probably one of the more expensive items on the grocery list. And eating red meat is recommend only once a week for heart health - so you can save money & help your heart! Another saver is to plan meals for the week. Then you know what you need from the store, instead of buying a bunch of stuff and then later realize you still don't have everything to make a complete meal. Also, keep alert to the prices you are seeing. I dread shopping at Walmart, but I can get some of our things cheaper there - but not everything, so beware when you shop. Surprisingly, Target can beat Walmart prices on some things. Of the staples I buy often, I keep a mental note of who has them cheaper. I know, it can be easier to just pick things up all at one store - and sometimes I do that. However, if you know you are going to be driving past another store that has your items less expensive - why not save a little?

Let's face it...those seem to be the two categories we place ourselves in...and if you feel like I do after having a baby, it's not the Fit category I'm looking at. But I also can't be bothered to do any exercising......

Is Denise Austin still around? Seriously. She was kicking butt way back before I had kids. I remember being quite overambitious, buying her pregnancy work out dvd. After one try it stayed on the shelf and collected dust for a very long time. I pulled it out, waaayyyy post-pregnancy and I STILL couldn't keep up. She's crazy-fit!

Sleepy Head

Yawn. Stretch. Yawn. Crack open an eye. Check the clock. Yawn. Ughh - it's not even 6am!
The Prince has awoke already.

I would place bets that my darling son has some sort of super power to know when I go to bed late. On an average morning he will wake at 7 or 7:30 am. However, the nights I go to bed after midnight, he wakes up at the crack of dawn the next day, every time! Coincidence or not?

I'll never know, but one thing is for sure... I'll be ready for a nap today too!

All Aboard

Excitement is building, grandma is coming and we are all gearing up. We are taking our little train lover to A Day Out with Thomas this weekend. Mission Impossible: Cool as a Cucumber

As my sons' eyes turn red and start to tear up, my heart begins to break. I lost my patience once again. I tell myself each night before I go to bed, I will try harder tomorrow not to lose my cool.

I'll start at the beginning. I was rushing around trying to get everything gathered so we could get out of the house on time. In the meantime, my darling Prince opened the fridge and grabbed the chocolate sauce and is asking for chocolate milk. He proceeds to get chocolate on his hands and shirt. Frustrated, and already running late, I bend down look him right in the eye and say "Look at you. You are a mess. Don't move while I get a wipe" Upon my return, he moved from the kitchen to the dark laundry room. I turned on the light and he turned away from me. I bent down and he turned around with red watery eyes and a quivering lip. I wanted to cry on the spot. I pulled my tot in for a giant hug and told him sorry. This was the first time he has reacted this way. I'm guessing he is now comprehending reprimand and I hurt his feelings. Why did I lose my cool over something as small as chocolate sauce? Probably because that wasn't the first disaster of the morning.

I need to start taking lessons from the Man in the Yellow Hat on Curious George. That crazy monkey is always causing chaos and the Man in the Yellow Hat is always so calm, even when George floods their apartment, tears off all the wallpaper in the bathroom or buys 100 dozen doughnuts. He turns those moments into learning opportunities instead. That man is a saint!

Potty Training for Dummies

I'm the Dummy and I need this book! I've never done this before, I have only potty trained a dog. Two different species, two different methods. I've read the "signs of readiness" and tips a hundred times. I've checked out a video from the library and I just got my Free Huggies DVD in the mail (but I still need to watch it). But none of these resources has yet to tell me to ditch the diapers and go to underwear first thing. I thought once we have the potty thing under control, then I would make the switch. Apparently, diapers confuse the little ones - see, I'm the dummy and need it spelled out for me! Also, why do they have all boys start peeing sitting down - then we have to re-train to stand up? And when your dude goes #2 on the potty, what is the best way to wipe his tush clean?

After talking to some veteran potty training moms here are some of the answers to the above questions that aren't easy to find in print.
*As soon as you decide to start the process, purchase some undies or pull-ups and keep your diapers for overnight.
*Most moms start their boys out sitting for both #1 & 2. After more research I found that often bowels and urine come at the same time, so you may want to wait for the standing pee lesson until he is a bit more accustomed to the whole potty thing.
*And for clean up after #2, have your tot lean forward while still sitting on the pot and clean away with your leftover diaper wipes or other "wet" wipes for potty training bottoms. Believe me, these work a thousand times better than regular old toilet paper.

Morning Yummies

Good Morning Mobsters, I sure hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!

We enjoyed having the family over for breakfast to celebrate Moms & Grandmas.

I found a few new recipes that I used yesterday for breakfast (compliments of Rachel Ray's Magazine). I made a yummy Stuffed French Toast that was a hit. Instead of peanut butter and chocolate, we opted for a Nutella & banana slices concoction and then cream cheese & blueberries for a second choice. Both were really tasty and worth trying!

I also tried a new recipe for Iced Cafe Mocha, it was easy and delicious, once I got the water measurement figured out. The recipe says to brew with 4 cups of water, which really means 4 coffee pot cups of water. I made the mistake of first brewing with 4 measuring cups of water. I'm going to make this one again and keep it in the fridge so I can sip on some anytime of the day instead of making an expensive trip to Starbucks!

If you weren't already aware... Mother's day is THIS weekend!

Even though I'm a mom now, I still feel like this holiday isn't for me. Worries about getting my mom, step-mom and mother-in-law gifts, getting the guest room ready for mom, cleaning the house and preparing Sunday morning brunch for the Grandmas. Ughh, where is my day of rest and relaxation?!

Wiggle Jiggles

This was news to me, though I'm sure some of you seasoned moms will simply chuckle at my revelation...

Young boys, about the age of 7-8, suddenly and uncontrollably, cannot hold still! While reading a book, he twirls his hair (which we finally cut really short last weekend). While talking his eyes dart about as if he were a criminal under brute force and major investigation (usually that's half true). While eating, writing, or doing anything that requires sitting in a chair, his feet swing like dualing pendulums.

It is enough to cause me to ask for a large dose of anxiety medication. Not for the kid, for me!

I get it now. I read the papers that come home from school (ok, not all, just a few each month). I've learned that seven/eight can't hold still. Fine. I get that. Unfortunately though, it drives the %*&#@ out of me!

So, seasoned moms...when the chuckling subsides, please tell me that this ends. It does end, right?

Managed Chaos

I need help getting my chaos organized! There are toys everywhere, constant crumbs on the floor and a stack of papers on the kitchen counter. But, no matter how many times I pick up the toys, my toddler is right behind me pulling them out again. I can sweep the floor, but one snack later there are crumbs strung out. After a day full of play dates, errands, etc; dinner is prepared, cleaned and baths are given, my stack of papers is still in the same spot. Wait, the pile has grown, because I just keep throwing that days mail right on top. Ughhh! I can't be the only one, can I?

Bikini Mama?

It's that time again, whether you like it or not...swimsuit season. This time of year, while glorious for some who simply love the budding trees and singing birds, for many of us is simply horrible. Compounding the distress of the shopping excursion ahead, you're pregnant.
But let me tell ya something sister...your pickin's are WAY better than they used to be in "the day".
A few finds to get you motivated:

This cute and colorful little number is trendy with it's spring colors, and not hideous like swim numbers of the good old days. New Arrival - Lilly Pulitzer Printed Tankini $165 at A Pea In The Pod, and my favorite, machine washable.

Now, you might think this a ridiculous price for a swimsuit. If you can afford it, spend it. A good suit that can last you through the season, and maybe another pregnancy down the road, is totally worth it.

This black and white abstract print Tankini from Mimi Maternity is a lesser expensive option at $78, but still great quality and a good fit. The bottoms ride under the belly, which was my preference when pregnant in the heat of the summer.

Being pregnant and stuffing all that into a swimsuit isn't always easy. I think you should treat yourself just a bit in the clothing department. If you look good, you'll feel better. If that doesn't work, there is always chocolate!

Yo Baby!

Okay we all know that the sun can do some pretty awful things to us… and our kids too! We slather the kids with sunscreen, strap on their hats and use canopies on everything from the stroller to the wagon. But wait, we forgot their eyes. I know what you are thinking; your kiddo would never keep on a pair of traditional shades. Well friends, my tot has been testing out one of the coolest pair around. Baby Banz has a pair called Retro Kids Banz that comes with a stretchy headband that is adjustable by Velcro. Not only do these babies look hip, their eyes are protected by UV400 lens. These lenses block out the entire spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays from the sun. Pretty cool, eh? My kid loves to wear them; he calls them his “goggles”. He can put them on himself with ease and I feel good knowing his little eyes are protected.

Did you know that until approx 8-9 yrs old a child has no filters in the eye to block out UV light? You can actually do MORE harm to the eye if you put an inferior lens in front of the eye. Behind tinted lenses, the iris opens to allow more light into the eye; if the lens doesn’t protect properly, and more UV light gets into the eye potentially damaging the child’s eye.

You probably already know that tomorrow is Earth Day. We have been gradually making changes around our house to be more earth friendly. Almost every light has the new energy saving bulb, we recycle paper and cans, purchased (& use) the reusable bags from the grocery store and I have been filling my own cup with filtered water from home vs. buying bottle water… it’s astounding how many end up in the landfills. I know our efforts are just a small drop in the bucket, but at least we are trying. If you have a toddler or already been through that stage, you know that some words can be a mouthful for the little ones. The easiest fix is to make up new words in it's place. Again, I will reference Toy Story, since my tot has adopted a recent fondness for this movie. The other day he got up on his step stool and raised his arms above his head and said something that resembled Buzz Lightyear's slogan, "To infinity and beyond", and jumped off the stool onto the couch. He kept repeating this action, so I was able to comprehend his new word: In-fid-e-yond. This is now a regular word in our daily lives, just before Jr. Buzz is about to jump off something. Oh heaven help me that he doesn't try to fly from the top of the stairs next!

I completely adore my Tommi Crystal Design necklace and charm! It was a hard choice with so much to choose from, but I opted for an Initial charm and a Cross toggle necklace. I tend to hear "where did you get that?". Not only is it fun to wear, it fits perfectly into most of my wardrobe choices, which nowadays consists mostly of t-shirts and such. Are your boys entertained by pictures of themselves? Our son sure is! For Christmas we gave the Grandmas digital photo frames and loaded them up with pictures of our one and only 2 year old. The Prince quickly learned they were all pictures of him. When we arrive at one of the Grandma’s house, he turns on the digital frame to watch the “D-man Show” as he calls it. As the frame powers up, our movie buff announces “Coming Soon”. Maybe he has seen one to many trailers before his beloved Toy Story. Regardless, we all get a chuckle!

If I wasn't right there to witness the source of an ear piercing noise, I would of swore it was the neighbor kids shooting off fireworks. However, since I was sitting right next to my prince, I knew it was him. He can belt out a scream that sounds just like a bottle rocket - no kidding!

Today we were visiting some friends and during playtime he proceeds to shrill. Both my son and my friends daughter are running around the kitchen island screeching at their loudest. Well, let me tell you, my half-pint can squeal louder than any damsel in distress. If I didn't know better, it sounded like two cupcakes instead of coed's!

Mommy, That Boy Hurt My Feelings

After being cooped up for weeks we enjoyed a full afternoon at the park. My son Miles is immediately attracted to a game of tag with the "big boys" (kindergartners). He's their height but just not quite on the same language and development level. He's off again and I find a rock to park myself on for a nano-second of rest until I hear the crying. You see, I'm usually the mom who perks up when I hear crying because I'm sure my son has done SOMETHING to someone, usually a loud dinosaur growl to a sweet little toddler or something that produces shrills and an evil eye from another mom. I've found mamas of little girls are very unforgiving of the dino growl and any loud noise for that matter when their princess is being disturbed. Okay, please don't write me off just yet, I grew up as that little princess, with a sister to match! I'm new to this rough and tumble boy stuff but I'm learning by Miles' fourth year not to sweat it and it's okay if he gets dirty! Okay, moving on with the story. The cry was MY son! No, he didn't fall he was called a "name" by the big boy! Oh my! My heart was broken. This was the first experience where he was very upset by what another kid said to him. When he was a toddler and even in this preschool phase,"poo-poo face" is about as bad as it gets, and usually erupts in laughter. No, this was hurt feelings producing tears and questions. "Why did that boy say a naughty word to me Mommy? He hurt my feelings." Holding back my mama bear instinct leading me to give that little punk a piece of my mind, I realized these are babies and I need to use this as another teaching moment. I just don't remember many of those moments when I was a kid. Are we less tolerant, more sensitive, or so paranoid that our kid is going to be bruised emotionally from experiences such as this? He recovered, I recovered and hopefully our teaching moment will prompt him to reconsider before he decides to 'not make a positive choice' and hurt someone else's feelings. Boy, are we PC or what!

Our morning begins as usual, and all is going smooth. I grabbed a pair of jeans, a shirt and a fresh diaper for the prince just like any other day. He never has protested clothing, until today, that is. He looked at what I picked out and started crying. “Is that striped T-shirt really that bad?” I asked myself. Then my little style swami started repeating “guitars, guitars, guitars” in a desperate tone. “What is he talking about?” I ponder. Then I realized over the weekend we bought a new shirt with guitars on it. I was completely shocked he even remembered we bought it… and to go a couple of days before he demanded to wear it. He must have had a t-shirt flashback or I have a vein sprout on my hands. In the end, my pint-sized fashion plate did look rockin’ in his guitars!

We have officially entered the Q&A segment of toddler-hood. My curious little monkey is asking "what was that", actually said as "woes waz that", after he hears a noise or sees something he is not familiar with. It is actually very endearing...right now. I love the fact that he is anxious to learn about his world and I'm there to tell him all about. I know the famous and often tiresome 'why' phase is just lurking in the months ahead. I'm hoping I can still think it's endearing!

Easy Puffy Paint Recipe

Today I have a recipe for 3-D paint. Your budding Picasso can make his art stand out with Puffy Paint. Take 1/3 cup of each: flour, salt & water and mix until smooth. To tint your paint base, add a small amount of tempera or acrylic paint (or food coloring) to mixture - just enough to color the base. Spoon paint into a squeeze bottle and use to apply paint to construction paper or other thick paper. To add details, use toothpicks, forks, straws, Q-tips, etc to create additional dimension and textures. Allow to dry overnight and see the masterpiece the next day. Enjoy!

It was an egg coloring extravaganza this weekend. Thank goodness we striped our prince down to his diaper and plastered the counters with newspaper. It was a messy affair and everything was drenched, but we got some pretty colorful eggs (and hands) out of the deal. Isn't it all worth it when you see their eyes light up and a huge smile on their face. You know you just created a moment for a happy childhood memory!

What a awesome day we are having here in the Midwest. The sky is clear, the birds are chirping, a frog is croaking in our pond and the weather is spectacular at 67*! I'm so thrilled it is officially spring - at least by the calendar. Come tomorrow the temp will start to drop and Easter Egg hunting will be chilly. But, at least we have today. Recipe Review

Okay Queens, I've started testing out some of the recipes from Deceptively Delicious. I'm awaiting a response from the book's publishers if I can publish a few of the yummiest ones here in the blog. (I can't afford getting sued!).

My first attempt was at the Aloha Chicken Skewers. It uses sweet potato puree and pineapple puree. Instead of doing the purees myself, I just bought some baby food to speed up the process. The taste result: My boys, kiddo & husband, gobbled these up. I thought it was okay. I don't care for sweet potatoes, and I could still taste it. Overall, if you don't mind sweet potatoes, it sure was a hit at our dinner table!

Until I have an okay, I can only tell you if I recommend it or not. If you want to try out some recipes yourself, go and check it out from your local library for free!

This afternoon as I’m sitting down to blog, I decided to pop some 94% fat free microwave popcorn. I’m still a bit hungry after lunch since my munchkin ate more of my yogurt than I did. Then I started wondering, how healthy is this stuff anyway? Its corn and corn is a grain and a vegetable. Does that mean I’m getting whole grains and veggies in one yummy bite? Hmmm….I’m sure it is just wishful thinking. Does anyone know for sure? Feel free to add your comments.

Many apologies for going M.I.A. for a few days. I was having trouble connecting to the internet at the end of last week and today I could not muster the energy. Heaven help me… my darling son and I have had a few stand off’s these past couple days. I am trying to get him to say “Please” when he wants something. But he has a different agenda. Instead of simply saying “please”, he turns to throwing a tantrum. I tell him if he says “please” he can have whatever it might be he is asking for at the time. Instead he continues with the tantrum and I don’t give into him. Whew, what a struggle for one small word. I haven’t quite figured out why that word is so hard for him to say…. Maybe it is just him expressing his independence and choosing what he wants to say at the moment. I’m guessing he will catch on soon, especially if he won’t get things until he says "please". ;)

I just picked up a copy of “Deceptively Delicious – Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food”. Yep, it’s that cookbook by Jerry Seinfeld’s wife, Jessica. You probably heard about it last September or October when it was being promoted everywhere. Well, I finally got around to getting one and can’t wait to start whipping up some of these goodies. As I flipped through the book, I was surprised by how many of these recipes I want to try – so many look really tasty. It then dawned on me that I should share the results with you. Bite your Tongue

Amazement came over me when harsh words slid past my angelic tot’s lips. His chatter did not bear curse words, but it sounded just as ugly. As he pushes a bar stool into me trapping me between the kitchen counter and the stool, he says “Back off, Back off” in an aggressive way. I ask myself, where in the world did he learn this? I mentally scan my list of frequently used expressions and a light bulb went off. Of course, he got that from me… one of my overly used phrases I yell at our dogs. I’ve been conscious of not using profanity words but, I failed to realize he would mimic a simple scolding to our pooches. Then I had a ghastly flash into the future… what if he did the same thing on a play date? You can bet I will be biting my tongue the next time!

Does your little one drench himself while gulping from your water bottle? Mine sure does! I found a nifty spill-proof water bottle spout in the sippy cup isle at our local Hy-Vee grocery store. It’s made by Gerber and has been a dream to tote around with us. It works great, no leaks and fits most water bottles with ease. However, if they turn the bottle upside down and squeeze, out comes water. Our kiddo hasn’t learned this yet, but daddy discovered it, thank goodness junior wasn’t watching!

For other spill-proof options, I found a couple other spouts on-line. The Lil Topper works similar to the Gerber one and comes in two sizes. Check out “How it works” on the Lil Topper site for details. It is available on several websites including Amazon.com or plug in your zip on the “Purchase” page for a dealer near you.

Devil's Closet

I finally got to watch “The Devil Wears Prada”. Not as good as the book, but the movie versions rarely are. However, I loved the clothes Ann Hathaway got to wear! No, not the plaid skirt and cerulean blue sweater (hideous indeed), but the “after” looks. And when she walked into the sample closet, I got chills!

So how does one put these outfits together AND at a price the regular chick can afford? It would be easy to walk into a sample closet and coordinate fantastic looks. It’s much more challenging to do the same at a local department store.

Many of the large department stores have personal shoppers if you want to go that route. But you can also ask someone on the floor. I try to seek out someone who looks put together themselves. If she can’t dress herself, definitely don’t let her have a try with you. I like to watch for someone who looks like a supervisor or that person fiddling with the displays. Chances are that person knows every item on the floor and can quickly direct you to something fabulous. I’m sure the clerks hate this, but if I can’t find the pieces I want, I’ll strip the display because it’s usually the size I’m looking for.

Just a quick tip for those moms in the working world who have closets full of actual outfits and not just matching jogging outfits. ;)

I have three kids under 7, however that apparently is not enough to satisfy someone out there because I am bombareded with emails about the amazing little blue pill that will enhance my sex life.

I hope it's for a guy because the subject line reads:"want to be the best with your girlfriend". Now, I have girl friends, but no girlfriends. I'm pretty sure my girl friends don't need me on a little blue pill.

I wonder what happens when women take it. ?? Will I also be able to give my partner longer, more satisfying results? You know...my partner better just live by a cute little rhyme the kids came home from day care with years ago..."you get what you get and you don't throw a fit".

A Blue Review

My review is blue because I had such high hopes for my latest purchase and it fell flat on the dirty floor that it didn't get clean. Ok, maybe I have excessively dirty floors and it's my fault. Hmmm... that's a thought.

I bought the Scotch-Brite bathroom floor cleaner tool. It says it has hair-grabbing ridges, it does not say they are guaranteed to work.

Being a mom of boys, I don't have to tell you about the state of the floor around my toilets. To be fair, I think this product did a pretty good job of cleaning that. However it did not clean in one easy step as the package indicates. I have to dust the floor first, which I did with the Swiffer, or maybe the Pledge one...I don't know. So the fact that I still have to do two steps was annoying. It reached around the back of the toilet much easier than I can with no tool, so that was nice.

Unfortunately today isn't one where you're going to run right out and spend your money...but I'll save you $10-15 instead.

Yummy Butter

I'm loving my Mango Body Butter from AYU International. Thick, creamy mango butter. I leave it on my bedside table and lay it on thick each night, especially on feet, knees and elbows.

It's already sandal season for some lucky moms. Here in the Midwest, we might be able to sneak a pair on here and there, but for the most part I'll have another month to prepare my tootsies.

The Queenmum came across some fabulous new snacks...at least it's new to me. Fruita Bu. All organic fruit snacks found easily at our local superstore. My kids LOVE them, and I love that I can pronouce all of the ingredients!

Time Out

Hey girls...it's a little crazy around here, and since I'm the boss and all I've decided I'd better let you know that I've just got to take a break. We decided yesterday that we want to buy a house we happened upon and quickly put our house on the market today! ACK! So I'm busy picking up toys, scrubbing floors and getting the house in fantastic shape to, hopefully, sell quickly.

I wish I could post some funny story or recount the crazy things my boys are doing lately, but I just don't have anything. This is why we work from home and juggle work and kids, right? So we can occasionally just take leave and take care of home & family.

Hopefully I'll post some fabulous house news soon. The great news so far is that if we get the house, I'll have my own private office! Cheers!

In Case of Emergency

Every year or so I'm prompted to look deep within my phone book listing while preparing for what I hope will never happen..an emergency and the need for medical personnel to contact someone. I dread the "In Case of Emergency" contact: _____ space on medical forms. With no family members nearby, the title falls to a nearby friend. I worry about burdening someone.

All my friends also have a few kids and can't just drop everything to come help mine. I scroll thru my numbers: she's pregnant & puking, she works during the day, she lives further than the rest. But the question isn't really 'who does it inconvenience the least?', it's 'who will do it no matter what, no matter where, no matter when, because that person loves your kids like their own?'.

I hope every mom has several names to answer that question. No matter if it's one or four people - let each know how much it means to you that they care for your kids so much. And definitely warn the one which you bestow the title of "In Case of Emergency, Contact". For me it would be an honor to be this person to my friends, never a burden.

The Shining

I didn't get to post yesterday because we were not shiny happy people. Our little guy had his 18 month well visit, except that he wasn't well. A little virus and some pink-eye always makes a baby fun, huh? The usual questions...."does he run?" uh yeah, away from me. "does he use words together?" um...I think so. Then on top of the check-up it's time for shots. Yuck. The older they get, the more wickedly they look at you while enduring the pokes. After all, you brought them to this torture chamber and are sitting there watching it happen and not making it stop.

Relief set in as we finished and finally got to the mini-van. The boys like to go in through the back while I'm putting the stroller away. I had one of the seats flipped up due to hauling big stuff yesterday. The baby managed to fall precisely into the exposed metal bottom of my upturned seat. A lot of screaming followed. I thought surely he poked his eye out this time. A few seconds (which felt like hours as it all seemed in slow motion) later, he suddenly had a huge purple mound protruding from under his eye. I was calmly freaking, if that's possible.

Of course we ran back inside to make sure he wasn't blinded by the fall. Now even more screaming. I had dared to take the poor soul back into the torture center or horror. By this time the waiting room is packed! Thankfully we were whisked into a room. Now I can say that he does use two words together. "I go" and "get down" were repeatedly screamed confirming his vocal skills. Of course my middle child decides he has to pee, and he is hungry. Geez. It never ends.

Then it gets better! We're leaving, but the little guy now doesn't want to leave. He wants to play with the toys. ARGH! He can't play, he has pink eye. I say "no", he throws himself onto the floor and everyone watches me. I will NOT play into this act....so I stand at the door saying "bye, we're leaving". What a bitch, huh?

Finally, home. The eye looks horrible. Today as we ran errands everyone stares, a few ask what happened, I mention that he conveniently fell just outside the doctors office. It's definitely the biggest shiner any of the boys have ever had. And this is just the beginning, right? Oh the testosterone nightmare!

I love, love, love bath bombs. They are great moisturizers and having them around makes me take time out for a much deserved soak in the tub.
This one (pictured) is high on my list, largely due to the hot name, “Sex Bomb”. Hey, a girl can dream! It’s sexy scent of ylang-ylang and jasmine leave a lovely lingering smell, plus it turns your bath water a pretty pink.

Winter Warm Up

Today's mission is: buy more warm clothes for boys without going out in the cold. I fall back on and old favorite, Old Navy. The clothes last long enough to feel I got a good deal, they usually fit fine and I've never had to do a return. My first find is the Old Navy Boys Painter Jeans. I'm pretty sure we already have at least two pair of these for my six year old and I'm getting two more. They have the adjustable waist so at least I can get him a six and know they won't fall off his skinny waist. And after watching him and the neighbors boys slide down the sidewalk while waiting for the bus, I have a feeling we'll need a new pair anyway - at $16.50 each, not a bad investment.

Next I need a few more hoodies. My little man says the big kids poke fun about all the winter wear his has on. A hoodie looks cool and elimiates my nagging about wearing a hat.

Marker Mess

Just so you know...Mr. Clean erasers take marker off the wood floors. I cannot say, however, if it will leave a finish on the floor, but the marker is definitely off. Unfortunately, the blue marker mess was not a small reserved spot, but a very large area, approximately 4 x 4, in teh middle of the floor.

I've used my Orange Glo cleaner, and am now waiting for the Orange Glo wood finish treatment to dry. Let's hope it works. There were some pretty dull streaks once I used the eraser. So just remember my disclaimer...marker gone...finish maybe gone too. :)

Frightful weather

Once the temperature drops below 20, does it realy matter exactly what number it is? It's friggin' cold! I hear DJ's on the radio arguing weather it's 13 or 16. Dear me. Just go outside..it's cold. So just report to me that it's so friggin' cold you must wipe the boys' noses or the buggers will freeze on their cold little faces. That's the type of weather update I need.

Other than that I really have nothing to report. I've got some great products I'm sampling so that I can give you some super reports on some super goodies! For now I'm staying in and staying warm, plus praying schoold doesn't get let out early!

Wonderful Fun

If you are in the Kansas City area with kids...you're probably like me, searching for indoor activities before cabin fever strikes.
Check out Wonderscope. It is a fantastic children's museum type place that all my kids love. Ages 6, 3 and 1, and there is something for all of them to enjoy. Usually all in the same room.

Wonderscope is an elementary school building that was transformed into a magical playland for kids. Each classroom has been turned into an imaginary world of shopping, a hospital, even a trip to the moon. There is a cute little eating area too. So pack the kids and a lunch. Get there at 10:00 a.m., stay for lunch, they drive home your sleepy little babes. It's a perfect break to the week.

We buy the family + 1 membership so that each time we go we can bring an extra friend and that friend doesn't have to pay! It's well worth it, and it helps a great cause....growing our childrens' minds!

For Us Girls

More and more we search high and low for stuff for the kiddo's, then screw ourselves just grabbing whatever we find that may or may not work out for us.

Queenmum ot the rescue! Well, only if you've been searching high and low for a fantastic curling iron. They definitely are NOT all alike.

I have thick thick hair, and loads of it. It's dead straight, but I can nearly pull off an afro-look because there is so much hair. The last thing I can get it to do after baby #3 is curl. It's finally long enough to really look great if I use a big fat curling iron or rollers. I've been doing rollers for a while, but the curl doesn't hold. An hour later I just have a full head of flat, yet poofy hair.

I've discovered a miracle! The Infiniti Tourmaline Ceramic curling iron. My hair is still curled after sleep on it! It heats in 30 seconds with 30 different heat settings. You put water in the removable end which does some magical thing to my hair making it curl and stay curled. I love it, I'm throwing my other 4 curling irons in the trash! Happy Hair Day to me! :)

Fab Friday Find

I have to watch what I say and do becauses there is a secret agent living in our home. Too bad he walks like an elephant or he might actually be able to be "secret" about it. :)
Our oldest son is a few months shy of being 7 - he loves his new Spy Master secret agent kit that we found at Barnes & Noble. It comes with pretend passport, code book, missions, and much more. His favorite piece is the fake moustache and sunglasses. And he takes it so seriously when he's in costume.

We're back!

We are home from our trip over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house. It's always such a joy traveling with three little boys. ;)

Now I get to review presents! Our favorites so far are all the Playmobil sets. Our boys are big into pirates right now, thanks to Pirates of the "Carabeeeen" (per my 3 yr. old) and love the Playmobil Pirate Treasure Chest and Playmobil Eagle Castle. The castle takes some time to set up, but it's really not all that complicated. At $50, it seems a bargain these days...plus they actually use their own imagination! No electronic moving parts or noises! We purchased four additional sets of people at $2-$4 each to make it even more fun.

The Pirate Treasure Chest is a great addition to the castle, even easier to assemble, and it all folds back up into the big chest that the kids can actually carry around.

If you want a great boy gift with no noise makers that they will actually play with...check out the Playmobil goodies. We purchased most of ours from Amazon.com and Target.com this year.

Now, I'm being summoned by the black knight to come play pirates & knights. bye bye!

A Safe Home

This topic may be a bit taboo is some circles...well, those cirlces need to get over it. Domestic abuse happens all too often and it does not discriminate. It affects rich & poor, any race. Women like you, like me, like our friends.

A great resource for information and help is SafeHome. Their web site is full of helpful information..some a bit shocking. According to the site, of high school graduates, 1 in 4 has been in an abusive relationship. As a parent, this is alarming. Especially a parent of a boy. In this world of gender equality I wonder if parents still teach their boys that it's not right to hit a girl, to open the door for a lady and use your best manners in the company of a girl/woman or adult. We do, and I'll admit, I feel a little old-fashioned. But how else can you teach the respect at such an early age? It is fun to see the look on people's faces when my 3 & 6 year old are fighting to be the "polite one" holding the door. :)

The Pox?

Oh crap...I'm not sure, but the baby may have chickenpox. He has a huge rash all over his chest and back, plus a lot on his arms and upper legs...and MY is he cranky lately!!! He has no fever though. I think it was yesterday when we noticed the rash. I guess I'll show up at the doctor's office tomorrow at 8 a.m. and see what they think.

If I disappear on you...you'll know the news wasn't good and we're quarantined. I guess that shouldn't keep me from the computer, but I know that little monster will milk it for all it's worth if he does indeed have the pox.

Ugh...what is it with this third child? Every thing is "third times a charm"! :)
